Our Metal Roofing Services on Long Island

Whether your metal roof needs a quick fix or you're ready to replace an old roof with metal, our crew handles it. We've been working on Long Island roofs since 1998, so we know what salt air, nor'easters, and freeze-thaw winters do to a roof, and we build every metal system to stand up to them.

What's going on with your roof?

Metal Roof Installation

Thinking about switching to metal? We install standing seam, metal shingles, and exposed fastener systems on homes across Nassau and Suffolk. We start by checking your roof deck and ventilation, then help you pick the panel style, metal, and color that fit your home and your budget. Every install is fastened and flashed for coastal wind, not just for the brochure.

Metal Roof Repair

A leaking metal roof is usually a small problem that turns big if you wait. We fix the things that cause most metal roof leaks: worn fastener washers, loose screws, failed seams, rusted panels, and bad flashing around chimneys, skylights, and vents. If a repair will do the job, we'll tell you. You won't get pushed into a new roof you don't need.

Metal Roof Replacement

Some metal roofs are past saving, and some homeowners are ready to trade worn shingles for metal. Either way, we handle the full replacement, from tear off and deck repairs to new underlayment, panels, and trim. We'll also tell you straight whether your roof is a good candidate for going over the existing layer or needs a full tear off.

Commercial Metal Roofing

For warehouses, retail spaces, and offices, a new roof has to fit around a working business. We install and replace commercial metal roofs with a focus on drainage, sealed seams, and schedules that keep you open. Low slope or pitched, new build or retrofit, we work around your hours.

Commercial Metal Roof Repair

A leak over inventory or a tenant space costs you every day it sits. We repair failed seams and fasteners, rusted panels, damaged flashing, and drainage trouble on commercial metal roofs, and we schedule the work around your business hours. If a repair can extend the life of the roof, we'll say so before we quote a replacement.

Metal Roof Inspection

Not sure what shape your roof is in? We'll get up there and look at everything: fasteners, seams, panels, flashing, gutters, and any signs of rust or oil canning. You get a clear report with photos and an honest recommendation, whether that's a small repair, routine maintenance, or nothing at all. It's a smart check after a big storm or before you buy a home.

Types of Metal Roofs for Long Island Homes

Metal roofing is not one product. The profile you pick changes how the roof looks, how it is fastened, what it costs, and how much upkeep it needs. Here are the three common systems, and the two metals they come in.

1 2 3
  1. Raised seam locks neighboring panels together.
  2. Hidden clip anchors each panel to the deck.
  3. Flat face with no exposed screws.

Standing Seam Metal Roof

Long vertical panels run from ridge to eave, and the seams between them stand up above the flat. Hidden clips hold each panel down, so there are no screw heads in the face of the roof.

Fastening
Concealed clips under the seam. Panels can expand and contract with the weather.
Look
Clean vertical lines. Reads modern in dark colors and classic in lighter ones.
Keep in mind
Usually the highest upfront cost of the three. Wide flat panels can show a light waviness called oil canning. It is cosmetic, and panel profile and installation details help keep it down.
  • Best for
  • Long-term value
  • Solar ready roofs
  • Clean modern look
1 2 3
  1. Each course laps under the next.
  2. Stone coated versions add a granule surface.
  3. Fasteners sit at the top edge, covered by the next course.

Metal Shingles and Stone Coated Steel

Small interlocking panels pressed to look like asphalt shingles, wood shake, slate, or tile. Stone coated versions add a granule surface on top of the metal.

Fastening
Fastened along the top edge and covered by the next course, so the fasteners are mostly out of sight.
Look
Traditional. Blends in on streets where a big change in style would stand out.
Keep in mind
More pieces and more laps than standing seam, so the detail work at valleys, dormers, and chimneys matters. Products vary by manufacturer, so we go over the options for your house.
  • Best for
  • Traditional look
  • Cut up rooflines
  • Neighborhood fit
1 2 3
  1. Screw and rubber washer through the face of the panel.
  2. Screw runs into the roof framing below.
  3. Ribs add stiffness and shed water.

Corrugated and Exposed Fastener Panels

Overlapping ribbed or wavy panels with screws driven through the face. It is the simplest metal system and is often the most budget friendly.

Fastening
Screws with rubber washers through the panel. The washers wear over time and are the part to keep an eye on.
Look
Ribbed, utility look. Common on garages, workshops, sheds, and additions.
Keep in mind
Loose or backed out screws and worn washers are a common cause of leaks on this style. Periodic checks keep them in shape, and our roof repair work covers them.
  • Best for
  • Garages and outbuildings
  • Tighter budgets
  • Simple projects

Steel or Aluminum?

Most of these systems are made in more than one metal. For most homes the real choice is between coated steel and aluminum.

Corrosion
Coated steel (galvalume or galvanized) with a baked on paint finish. It is protected as long as the coating stays intact, so deep scratches should be touched up.
Near the water
Fine for most homes. Right on the water, ask about coating options and edge details.
Strength
Stiffer and more dent resistant than aluminum.
Cost
Usually the lower cost of the two.
Corrosion
Aluminum does not rust.
Near the water
Often the pick for homes close to salt air, such as waterfront and bayside properties.
Strength
Lighter and softer, so it can dent more easily from impacts like a fallen branch.
Cost
Usually costs more than steel.

Not sure which fits your house? Tell us how close you are to the water and what look you want, and we will point you to the right system.

Solar-Ready Metal Roofs on Long Island

Standing seam is one of the best roofs to put solar on. Clamps grip the raised seams, so panels can mount without drilling through the roof panels. Because we handle both roofing and solar, we plan the roof and the panels together.

  • Clamps hold onto the seam, not the roof surface.
  • One team plans the roof and the panels together.
  • Already have solar? We can handle solar panel removal and reinstall during a roof replacement.

Metal Roof vs Asphalt Shingles on Long Island

Most homeowners picking a new roof end up comparing metal and asphalt shingles. Here is an honest side by side, including the places where shingles win.

What matters most to you?

Pick what matters to you and see which way it leans.

Metal roof compared with asphalt shingles
What matters Metal roof Asphalt shingles
Upfront cost Costs more upfront. Better here. Costs less upfront, so the first invoice is lower.
Lifespan Better here. Usually lasts far longer than shingles when it is installed well. Shorter service life, so replacement comes sooner.
Wind and storms Better here. Panels interlock and are fastened as a system, which helps in nor'easters and coastal wind. Actual ratings depend on the product and the install. Tabs can lift or tear in strong wind, especially on older roofs.
Snow and ice Snow slides off, which suits freeze-thaw winters. Snow guards may be needed over doors and walkways. Snow stays put and melts slowly. Ice dams can form on any roof without good insulation and ventilation.
Noise Over solid decking with underlayment, rain noise is usually not a problem. Better here. Quiet by nature.
Repairs Needs fewer repairs, but fixes should be done by someone who works with metal. Better here. Easy to patch, and most roofers can do it.
Weight Better here. Lighter than most roofing materials, so less load on the structure. Heavier, which matters on older framing.
Solar panels Better here. Standing seam takes solar clamps with no roof holes, and reflective finishes can cut heat gain. Solar mounts are bolted through the roof and sealed, so each one is a spot to maintain.

A colored bar marks the edge on that row. Rows with no bar are a close call.

Our Take

Neither roof is wrong. Asphalt shingles cost less now and are easy to fix. Metal costs more now and usually pays you back in years of service, storm performance, and fewer replacements. If you plan to stay in your home a long time, metal tends to make sense. If you plan to sell soon or the budget is tight, shingles can be the right call.

Metal Roof Replacement on Long Island

Replacing a roof is a big job, and the right way to do it depends on what is on your house now. Whether you are swapping worn shingles for metal or replacing an old metal roof, here is how it works.

Full Tear Off or Over Existing Shingles

Full tear off

The old roofing comes off down to the deck. We check the wood, repair what is soft or damaged, and start fresh with new underlayment and panels.

Good fit: roofs with more than one layer, soft spots, past leaks, or curled and missing shingles.

Keep in mind: more work and more debris to haul away, so it usually costs more and takes longer.

Over existing shingles

The new panels go on top of one layer of sound shingles, with new underlayment in between. It skips the tear off.

Good fit: a single layer of shingles that is flat, dry, and in good shape, on a deck with no known problems.

Keep in mind: it hides what is under the shingles, and local building code and your roof's condition decide if it is allowed.

Can You Put a Metal Roof Over Shingles?

Sometimes. A metal roof can go over one layer of asphalt shingles when the roof underneath is flat, dry, and solid. If the shingles are badly worn, the deck is soft, or there is more than one layer, the old roof needs to come off first. We look at your roof and tell you which it is.

Going over can work when

  • There is only one layer of shingles
  • The roof surface is flat, with no soft spots
  • There are no leaks or ceiling stains
  • The shingles are in decent shape

A tear off is the better call when

  • There is more than one layer
  • The deck feels soft or bouncy
  • The roof has leaked before
  • Shingles are badly curled, cracked, or missing

Replacing an Old Metal Roof

Metal roofs last a long time, but they do wear out, and not every problem means a new roof. Loose screws, worn washers, and a few failed seams can often be repaired. Widespread rust, panels failing across the roof, or leaks that keep coming back after repairs are signs it is time to replace. We will tell you which one you have. If you think it is a fix and not a replacement, see our roof repair service.

Popular Metal Roof Colors

We offer metal roofing in six colors. Pick the one that goes best with your siding, brick, and the look you want for your home.

  • Black
  • White
  • Brown
  • Red
  • Green
  • Bronze

Colors look different on a screen than on a roof, so look at a sample in daylight before you decide. Thinking about black? Read our guide to black metal roofs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a metal roof cost on Long Island?

It depends on your roof. The biggest things are the type of system (standing seam usually costs more than exposed fastener panels), the metal (aluminum usually costs more than steel), the size and shape of your roof, and whether the deck needs repairs. Roofers price by the square, which is 100 square feet of roof, so the only way to get a real number is to have someone measure yours. We give free quotes and walk you through what is in the price.

Metal roofs generally last far longer than asphalt shingles. How long yours lasts depends on the metal, the paint coating, how well it is installed, and how close you are to salt air. Good installation matters as much as the material, because fasteners, flashing, and seams are where most problems start.

Not usually. Over solid decking with underlayment, and with a normal attic below, rain on a metal roof sounds much like rain on any other roof. The loud metal roofs people remember are often barns and sheds with open framing and no decking. If noise is a worry, tell us and we will talk through how your roof is built.

Yes, in some cases. It works over a single layer of sound shingles on a flat, dry deck. If there are multiple layers, soft spots, or past leaks, the old roof comes off first. We check your roof before we recommend either.

It depends on your plans. Standing seam costs more upfront, but it has hidden fasteners, a clean look, and fewer spots for leaks to start, and it is the best fit if you want to add solar. If you plan to stay in your home for a long time, or you live near the water and want a low maintenance roof, it is often worth it. If your budget is tight, you plan to sell soon, or it is a garage or outbuilding, another metal system can make more sense.
